What is the CEYC?
CEYC is the abbreviation for the City of Edmonton Youth Council. It is a body within the City of Edmonton made up of young people between the ages of 13 and 23, with a and their mandate is to advise City Council on youth-related issues.
How does CEYC represent youth in our city?
Recruitment efforts focus on making the opportunity known to all populations of youth in Edmonton. By encouraging the involvement of all youth, the CEYC hopes to build a group of young individuals who represent the many and varied youth perspectives and experiences in Edmonton.
How does CEYC affect the lives of youth in our city?
The CEYC will ensure that the perspectives of youth are taken into account by working alongside City Council and City staff on planning and policy issues.
When does the CEYC meet?
The CEYC is made up of a General Assembly of Youth and an Executive. Both bodies meet once a month. The General Assembly meets on every 2nd Wednesday of the month, at 5pm.
Where does the CEYC meet?
The General Assembly meetings are in the River Valley Room of City Hall, located at #1 Sir Winston Churchill Square.
Are CEYC meetings open? Can anyone come to the meetings even if they are not formally a Youth Councillor?
Yes, CEYC meetings are open to the public.
What kind of time commitment does CEYC require from its Youth Councillors?
There are monthly General Assembly meetings which are 3 hours in duration. Executive meetings also take place once a month, and are 3 hours long. General Assembly members are encouraged to join subcommittees/working groups/civic committees as well, which involves attendance at meetings as well. Basic communication, for example over email, also takes time.
How does the Youth Council try to address the transportation needs of its members?
Transportation to and from meetings will be provided in the form of bus tickets. They can be obtained from the Youth Council Coordinator by signing them out as needed.
What is CEYC’s relationship to City Council and the civic government?
The Youth Council advises City Council on youth-related issues, and throughout the year will issue a number of reports to the Community Services Committee of Council for their consideration.
Do Youth Councillors have the opportunity to work alongside the City Councillors in order to receive their feedback and/or guidance concerning a specific task or project?
There is the potential to work in collaboration with city councilors, depending on the scope and needs of the work.

How are decisions made within CEYC? Are there any veto votes?
Decisions are made by vote at General Assembly meetings. Each member casts one vote, and there are no veto votes.
Who can join the CEYC?
Any resident of Edmonton between the ages of 13 and 23.
How and when can you apply for CEYC?

Do I need to have certain grades or education level to apply?
No. The only things required to apply to the CEYC are residency in Edmonton, and being between 13 and 23.
Do you need any volunteer experience to join the Youth Council?
No. The only things required to apply to the CEYC are residency in Edmonton, and being between 13 and 23.
Can I help without being a member?
People can offer help to the Youth Council’s activities, projects, and initiatives without being a member. Subcommittees can be joined by non-members, however non-members cannot vote at General Assembly meetings.
